Since the global pandemic of the novel coronavirus (referred to as the new coronavirus) in 2020, the new coronavirus infection has had a profound impact on the lifestyle, ideology, health status, including psychological and spiritual state of residents. With the increase of the proportion of infection in China, in a certain period of time, there will be a large number of people who have recovered after infection ('Yangkang' population). In October 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) first published the clinical definition of long-term symptoms of the new coronavirus (i.e., long COVID symptoms): symptoms that appear within 10 months of infection and persist for at least 3 months, and cannot be explained by other diagnoses. Persistent physical fatigue, muscle aches or mood swings, cognitive problems and respiratory problems are common in the three main categories of symptoms, and 2.6% of infected people developed at least one long COVID symptom.

According to the 'Diagnosis and Treatment Plan for Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia' (Trial Version 10) issued by the General Office of the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, the health risks that may be faced after 'Yangkang':

1

Respiratory system injury: patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia will have secondary inflammation of the trachea and bronchi, so it will cause cough, and at the same time, the respiratory mucosa caused by the early virus is destroyed, and the human body discharges throat and trachea and bronchial secretions through coughing and sputum.

2

Heart damage: There is also a certain probability of inducing myocarditis after the new crown infection, but usually myocarditis is related to the virus-related immune response in the late stage of viral infection or 1-2 weeks later. In addition to increased heart rate, ECG changes and myocardial markers increase significantly.

3

Immunocompromised: During the recovery period after the new crown infection, the body's immunity is still low, and it is more likely to be infected with other respiratory viruses at this time.

4

Drug-induced liver and kidney injury: During the new crown infection, liver and kidney damage caused by improper use of cold medicines, antipyretic drugs, and even wrong medication has been reported, and in addition to causing drug allergies, stacked and mixed cold medicines may also lead to acute liver injury, kidney injury, gastric mucosal damage, nerve disorders and other adverse reactions.

5

Decreased sense of taste and smell: The loss of taste or smell after infection with the new coronavirus may be related to the strength of the immune response of the infected person. Loss of smell and taste is a 'transient' symptom of infection with the new coronavirus infection, especially the Omicron virus strain, and with the course of the disease and the gradual reduction of symptoms, most people can return to normal on their own. However, if the loss of taste and smell has not improved for more than a month, a specialist should be seen promptly.

6

The receptors of the new coronavirus are widely distributed on the surface of capillary endothelial cells in all tissues and organs of the human body, and the virus may invade all tissues and organs of the human body with blood circulation, so the detection of coagulation function, thyroid function and glucose metabolism function should be concerned by 'Yangkang' people.

Physicians of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the Health Examination and Physician Health Insurance Professional Committee, and the Health Management Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Association, together with experts from a number of academic groups, jointly launched the 'Expert Consensus on Special Health Examination Items for People Recovering from Novel Coronavirus Infection', which lists the content and significance of 3 types of special items for health examination for 'Yangkang people' after infection with the new crown (within 3 months, 6-6 months, and lasting more than 23 months after infection with the new crown). It is recommended that 'Yangkang' people add the following testing items according to their own conditions on the basis of the basic health examination items to assess and understand whether there is organ damage and recovery after infection with 'Yangkang'.
